What is your favourite part of your job?
The constant learning and new challenges that get thrown my way. Moving from the leisure side to the business side of the travel industry showed me how vast and rich the travel industry is. Being an avid traveller, I work every day on solving problems that I can personally relate to. What makes this experience even better is working with a smart, humble and motivated group of people that I now consider family, not just co-workers.
What has been your proudest moment so far at Egencia?
My proudest moment was successfully being able to overcome all the Covid-related challenges and uncertainties. By delivering multiple critical features that had some hard deadlines to help users navigate all the disruptions; by providing travel advisories, cancellations, self-service, airline credits, chat capabilities and much more. All without being able to meet physically to brainstorm or whiteboard solutions or architecture. It showed me how strong a team and a company we are.
What makes Egencia a great place to work?
Having my personal values match that of Egencia; promoting inclusion and diversity, volunteering opportunities and donation matching. Also, I would say it's the combination of the constant learning and exciting problems that we are working on.
Why would you recommend a career within your team?
Aside from the great team dynamics and the talented group of people we have in our team. I like to think that the mobile team is the perfect place to develop both depth and breadth of knowledge. You get to touch every part of the technology stack since we own our own services, all the way to the user facing UI/UX interactions. The mobile app hosts all line of businesses and provides shopping, booking and post booking experiences, you get to learn about all sides of the business while being able to work with pretty much every team in the company.
What piece of career advice would you give candidates looking to join Egencia?
My advice would be, join hungry to learn. While foundational and technical skills are important, the on-the-job experience and growth is what really sets Egencia apart. Pick up challenging tasks that you might not be comfortable working. Make connections with other team members and be curious to learn what other teams are working on. Everyone here is willing to help and mentor new hires and as a new joiner you should never hesitate to ask questions or ask for help.
